    CHALLENGE: 
Google is increasingly seen as an invisible utility. How can we humanise the brand and its helpful technologies?

RESPONSE: 
A documentary series about people using technology to solve human problems in surprising and unexpected ways. The series found its home on YouTube supported by social, editorial, physical events and distribution partnerships with the New York times, Jimmy Fallon &#38;amp; Ellen Degeneres.

IMPACT: 
‘Search On’ stories have been viewed more than 1 Billion times and are proven to drive optimism for technology and the role Google plays in user’s lives.

OPPORUNITY: 
 Google has unique access to the search queries of its users across the world.&#38;nbsp;How might this data be used to better embed the brand in cultural moments - from Black History Month to International Women’s Day, Pride to Prom.

APPROACH:User research to decide when Google should  turn up, followed by creative briefs to define how it could do so meaningfully across content and campaigns.

IMPACT: The ‘Year in Search’ campaigns in 2018 &#38;amp; 2019 drove strong uplift in key brand reputation metrics. ‘Moments in Search’ became the most viewed branded content on YouTube in 2018.&#38;nbsp;

THE GUARDIAN: ’#GuardianCoffee’ brand experience


CHALLENGE: The Guardian’s has a new App developed by Mohawk agency, how can we grow awareness and subscriptions?

RESPONSE: 
Guardian Coffee is a concept cafe in East London; a modern take on 17th Century coffee-shops where the capital’s brightest minds met to drink, think, write and debate. At each table visitors are invited to trial the newspaper’s app, to add to crowd-sourced stories, and to gain access to exclusive content &#38;amp; events.
IMPACT: 
#GuardianCoffee trended on Twitter within hours of opening. Although initially intended to run for just 3 months, it remained open for 3 years and was replicated in Rough Trade NYC. Throughout this time it played home to workshops, talks and experiments in ‘new’ journalism.

VRT NWS: ’Beyond Linear’ content strategy


CHALLENGE: How can Belgian state broadcaster VRT reach audiences beyond traditional ‘linear’ channels like TV or radio?


APPROACH: 
Two sprints to concept distribution formats for VRT’s news content. The first involved mapping user journeys to identify and design for new consumption moments. The second zoomed in on the changing content needs, behaviours, and topic interests of Gen Z who are most likely to consume their news elsewhere.


IMPACT: 
A set of distribution concepts, co-created with the broadcaster and ready for further development. The first to have tested well with users is ‘@nws.nws.nws’: an Instagram channel that serves bite-sized news and invites ‘take-overs’ for Flemish youngsters to broadcast their PoV.

RACE FOR THE ARCTIC: a docu-game about climate change


CHALLENGE: The climate crisis is the challenge of a generation, but its scale &#38;amp; complexity is hard to comprehend. The numbers are too small (2 degrees), too big (20 tons) or too abstract (400 parts per million). 

CONCEPT: 
A docu-game that enables people to engage with climate research through play. Players follow the story of a fictional freight company as they uncover real perspectives on the future of the Arctic.
APPROACH:The game narrative &#38;amp; environment is modelled on data from the scientific literature, enriched with stories, events and characters co-created with a climate scientist, a shipping CEO, a marine biologist, a political scientist and indigenous communty-leaders.&#38;nbsp;
IMPACT: ‘Race for the Arctic’ is currently in development... watch this space!

	OVERTON SNAP: a Snapchat campaign to encourage young people to vote
	  
    
    INSIGHT:
 In the 2015 UK election older citizens were up to 4x more likely to vote than younger generations. This effectively skews political discourse and ensures that the needs of young people are ignored. 

RESPONSE: 
In the run up to the 2017 election we wanted to change this. We created geo-located Snapchat filters to target marginal seats with youthful populations. Each filter featured tailored, time-sensitive messaging designed for social sharing.
IMPACT: 
+26% more young people turned out to vote in 2017, compared to 2015. Whilst we can’t claim sole responsibility for this so-called ‘Youth-quake’ we’d like to think that we did our part to help young people feel their votes count.

FLOTSM:
an anonymous social network


INSIGHT: 
Social media offers a great potential for cooperation and shared insight. All too often, however, this utopian vision devolves into mud-slinging, name-calling or worse. 
RESPONSE: 
An anonymous opinion-gathering App that empowers users to crowd-source the wisdom of their peers. Users float and respond to questions – known as Flotsm – to and from other community members and can filter answers to discover similarities and explore difference.

IMPACT: 
Flotsm was released to a flurry of awards and positive reviews. Within its first year it celebrated 1 million+ active users.&#38;nbsp;
